Heyman argues that the recent decision made behind closed doors by the Campbell government to the boost discount rate increase to 16 per cent is outrageous and will cost taxpayers dearly.
It means that since 2004-when Victoria began boosting the discount rate-the Campbell government has given close to $90 million in breaks to private store owners. Instead, BCGEU Component 5 chairperson Betty Reid says the money should have gone to reduce hospital waitlists, improve our education system or provide a modest increase in welfare rates.
