B.C. Safety Authority workers ratify new collective agreement
B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union members at the B.C. Safety Authority have voted 75 per cent in favour of ratifying a new collective agreement that provides an 11.5 percent wage increase over three years.
"This agreement contains increases that will help our members' jobs remain competitive with the private sector," said BCGEU president Darryl Walker. "In addition to annual wage hikes, our members have negotiated a new job evaluation plan, a market adjustment increase for safety officers and improved benefits."
The B.C. Safety Authority provides safety services throughout the province of B.C., in accident investigation, railways, boiler and refrigeration systems, elevating devices, and gas systems.
The BCGEU represents 238 members in 28 offices who issue permits, inspect equipment, educate the public about safety issues, investigate incidents and register equipment designs.
