ELECTION VOICES - April 15, 2009

"I remember when Gordon Campbell was running in 2000 and he said he didn't believe in ripping up contracts. One of the first things he did when he was elected was rip up the Munro Agreement. It set community social services back so far. We are a sector who helps the most vulnerable people in the community, and our wages and benefits were cut back to a barely livable wage. People are no longer going into this field and recruitment and retention are huge issues for us. "It is so important that we tell this government enough is enough - you can't cut funding to important programs. Homelessness has incressed over 300 % since Gordon Campbell was elected and our province has the highest child poverty rate in Canada . |

"The Campbell government has intentionally weakened all of our public services and basically laid out the red carpet for private ownership of that which was public. "We see this in our public health care system, in municipal services and attempts to ‘outsource' water service treatment, and through weakening BC Hydro and selling off hydro generation and access to pristine rivers to the highest bidder. "We know what the Campbell government stands for - and we've seen what happens when he's given license to run roughshod over the province." |
