Placement process for public service workers in new layoffs gets underway
The collective agreement placement process for the 135 BCGEU members who received Article 13.1 layoff notices yesterday is now underway.
These impacts come from the Ministry of Forests and Range and the Ministry of Citizens' Services, with the bulk of the reductions coming from Shared Services B.C., an agency of the Ministry of Citizens' Services in the capital region.
The union has been in discussion with the Public Service Agency and the two ministries involved to obtain complete details on the impacted members, their classifications and locations.
The 90-day voluntary process in the collective agreement is intended to facilitate and coordinate the placement of surplus employees on a voluntary process. The Ministry Article 29 committees in both of these ministries will work hard to help members get through this difficult time and find alternate jobs as occurred with the 91 BCGEU members who were impacted in early September.
More details will be forthcoming as they are available. Members are urged to check the BCGEU web site on a regular basis.
