Ocean Crest Community Ministries employees join BCGEU

Workers at the Salvation Army Ocean Crest Community Ministries in Campbell River and Port Hardy have voted in favour of joining the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union.

The 41 new Salvation Army members are joining the BCGEU to get respect and fairness at their workplace.

"I am pleased to welcome the workers of the Ocean Crest Community Ministries," said BCGEU President Darryl Walker. "After the Ocean Crest workers explored a number of options, they joined the BCGEU to get a voice at their workplace."

The workers are employees of Salvation Army workplaces such as the Lighthouse Kitchen, Ocean Crest Community Church, Salvation Army Thrift Store, New Beginnings Boutique, and the Evergreen House shelter.

The workers will be joining the 65,000 women and men across the province working in fields from home support to casino workers to LPN's to highway maintenance workers.
