Employees at new care facility in Fraser Valley join BCGEU
Employees at Brookside Lodge residential care facility in the Fraser Valley voted on Friday, August 21 in favour of joining the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union to ensure fairness and respect in their workplace.
The residential care facility currently has 38 employees with the possibility of expanding to 60 employees after the centre opens on September 1st.
"We are very pleased to welcome these new employees to the BCGEU," says BCGEU President Darryl Walker. "Joining a union is a positive way for these workers to begin a productive relationship with their employer based on mutual respect."
Walker continues, "the employees at Brookside Lodge are part of a growing number of health care workers who are joining the BCGEU for protection and a voice in their workplace."
Brookside Lodge is a state of the art facility, offering full residential complex care and respite care services as well as the first Acquired Brain Injury care facility fully funded by the Fraser Health Authority.
The new BCGEU members include Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, care-aides, and dietary, recreational and housekeeping staff.
